Triple review on Vital Weekly!

I almost missed this, but apparently, more than a year ago, the almighty Vital Weekly web magazine reviewed in one shot all my tape releases of 2018 (A Deafening Silence, Base and Vespertine Works).

The reviews of the work are okay, as in the music didn’t blow their hats off, but they seemed to like it, although there is a repeating theme about it not being particularly “new”, which is fair enough, especially for a site that regularly reviews works of forward-thinking artists and bands that I worship, like Machinefabriek and others.

Of all three albums, the best words are for Base, getting some praise for its deliberated and strategic approach to noise:

Not your usual harsh noise walls, but a rather interesting free play of distorted sounds, guitars and electronics alike, with freeform percussion. […] This is quite removed from the other two releases, which seem more considerate and controlled, whereas this one is chaotic and wild. Here is some noise that is familiar and fine, with that rough edge we all love some much. It is not the work of madmen going wild and wilder, but something done with some care and consideration. That’s how we love them best.

Happy to have my music been considered by “the oldest source for music reviews”. Read the whole triple-review here, at the bottom of this issue: http://www.vitalweekly.net/1148.html

Antihistamine 2019

Very happy to have contributed a track to this year’s edition of Antihistamine, the no-synth compilation by US cassette label Histamine Tapes!

Here’s my track, two and a half minutes of tape loops and layers of an effected lap harp, giving in to the darkness I carry inside:

You can listen, download and support the whole compilation (close to 50 short tracks!) from Histamine Tapes bandcamp page: https://histaminetapes.bandcamp.com/album/antihistamine-2019-ht031

Enjoy!

Hydromancy

at098web
Very happy to present Hydromancy, a new solo digital release that’s found its home in the amazing label / powerhouse Audiotalaia, managed by the insanely talented and hardworking sound artist Edu Comelles.

This release is my most conceptual one to date, revolving around the subaquatic theme, only using recordings made with hydrophones, both mine and found digging around the internet.

The resulting four tracks are, unsurprisingly, filled with underwater ambiance, haunting bubbly noises, distant clanks and other unexplained sounds, bringing images of sunken ships, cursed lakes and ghostly rivers to the attentive listener.

You can listen and download Hydromancy for FREE from the release page in the Audiotalaia website: http://www.audiotalaia.net/2019/10/at098-subespai-hydromancy.html

Hope you like it!

Subespai live @ XperYmentaS

I had the pleasure to be interviewed and improvise live on air with the program hosts at Radio Ciutat Vella for the XperYmentaS program in Barcelona. You can listen to the whole program in this link.

Music starts at the 16:00 mark but be warned! The recording includes Catalan speech, snobbish views, ramblings on experimental music and raw dark improvisation!

Thanks a lot Miquel and Edu for the experience!

Introducing “Radiant Whispers”

DSC03371EDIT (1).jpg

Another promo split between jwptn and subespai, a celebration of friendship, a moral continuation of the artists’ first promo split together Moonlit Falls (still available on digital on my bandcamp page).

Two tracks and eight minutes of modified field recordings, saturated but almost inaudible elements, sun rays, and voices from the past.

Hear it for yourself:

A short video teaser:

Hope you like it! And if you really want it, drop me a line and we’ll make it happen 🙂

Thesis Recurring #84

Thesis Recurring is an iOS app, made by the amazing label/powerhouse Thesis Project, that lets you soak into an endless collection of eternally looping compositions made by amazing artists like Machinefabriek, Taylor Deupree and many more, accompanied by still photographs normally selected by the label owner himself, Gregory Euclide.

I am happy to announce my contribution to this specific initiative with a gentle processed piano loop, definitely feels like being in a different league:

Thanks Gregory for letting me participate in this beautiful idea!
