Open Frequencies #7 – Featured artist!

Stoked to be the featured artist of this fine open mic event by EMOM Sydney open to all electronic and experimental musicians to have a go at performing live!

Open Frequencies is a monthly open mic event held at The Hideaway Bar, similar to other open mic events but different, because this one is, and I quote…

Seeking all forms of electronic music, including dance, ambient, noise, electro, techno, glitch, space rock, soundscape, modular, synth, electronica, chiptune, hip hop, loopers, improvised, live coding, experimental, breakcore, trance…!

Honoured and terrified to be the headline of this month’s edition. I will be playing at around 9 but for 20 minutes (which is a bit longer than the regular set you would be playing in one of these events), but come earlier to see all the acts and feel the amazing vibe!

The event invite is here, looking forward to meeting you there!

Two new dates in November

⚠️ Update 29/10/2018: due to technical difficulties, I won’t be playing at SICKO November Program I, but Osinihcam will, go support them!

So far, November looks like a very collaborative month 🙂

On the 4th, I will be supporting Triage on their new EP launch and metamorphosis into Osinihcam as part of the SICKO November Program I. Here’s the link to the event and here’s a preview of this new EP:

And the week after that, without having had time to recover, Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson and myself will be performing our second gig as Act For Birds at the Sounds Unsound #21 down in Enmore, as always, at The Hideaway Bar, here’s the link to this other event.

Come along? Also keep updated with any other gigs and happenings in the live page 🤘🏻

Encounters in Time and Space

As mentioned earlier, a couple of months ago when I was in Barcelona, I had the pleasure to perform a live improvised session with electronic musician Adrià Bofarull as part of a series of events organised by the non-profit musical association Gràcia Territori Sonor.

The session was recorded and has become a digital live album titled Encounters in Time and Space, so even if you weren’t there, you can now stream or, even better, buy, download and support cool non-profit organisations from the Gràcia Territori Sonor bandcamp page, here’s the preview:

Hope you like it! If you do, let me know in the comments or over social media? 🙂

Introducing: Act for birds

Act for birds is the name of a duo consisting of Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson on guitars and myself on gadgets and loops. So far, this is a live act thing, having already a gig lined up for mid-August at the Hibernian House as part of the Bohemian Grove series of events and another potential one later in the year. Who knows if this thing can become something more than just a live duo, or something less?

Link to the upcoming presentation gig of Act for birds here. Come along?

A very much Naviar update

A Naviar Records flavoured update coming up! ⛵️

First up, the recording of the live performances in the Naviar Haiku Fest from back in May is now up for streaming and digital download! This is my set:

And second, a minute of each performance in this festival was chopped up and used as a starting point for the Disquiet Junto challenge number 338, named “Imaginary Quartet”, in which participants were asked to create a new track mashing up the four original one-minute tracks together. Needless to say the results were top notch and very inspiring! Here they are:

I would like to ask you to support beautiful initiatives like these two, as they support minoritary music styles and artists who bleed life to the actual environment 💙

Gigs update

Amazingly enough, I have three solo gigs in the horizon. The coolest part is that two of them are in Europe, in what will be the first time Subespai plays overseas!

This is the schedule:

06/05/2018 (Next Sunday!)
The SlyFox, Enmore, Sydney (AU)

Naviar Haiku Fest (as part of the Norwich & Norfolk arts festival ’18)
The birdcage, Norwich (UK)

Espai Celobert
Biblioteca Agustí Centelles, Barcelona (CAT)

This last one is special to me, as I will get to play in Barcelona for the first time, my home country, the city I was born and raised in, a place that I hold very close in my heart. I feel blessed with this opportunity.

Check out my Facebook page for updates around this. Looking forward to see you there! If you come by, just say hi, I always carry records and other goodies ready to giveaway 🎁

Live @ Haiku Fest, UK!

Big fan of Naviar Records here, as I’ve said multiple times before. Now even more, as their crowd have accepted my request to play at the next Naviar Haiku Fest, a celebration of the amazing Naviar Haiku initiative, a weekly challenge to soundtrack a haiku poem.

The coolest thing (if possible) is that this event happens as part of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival, in the United Kingdom. This will mark the first Subespai gig overseas!

If you happen to be around, come check it out? 🇬🇧😉
